Domaine Frey-Sohler – The Excellence of Alsace Wines in Scherwiller
A Historic Estate at the Heart of the Alsace Vineyard. Located 50 km south of Strasbourg, Scherwiller stretches across the gravel cone of the Giessen River, between the valleys of Villé and Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. This is where the Frey-Sohler family has cultivated vines for several generations. Today, Damien Sohler and his daughter Aude continue the family legacy on an estate renowned for producing precise, elegant wines deeply connected to their terroir.
Unique Terroirs Shaping Exceptional Wines
The vineyard extends across the Scherwiller communal appellation, the Rittersberg hillside and the prestigious Grand Cru Frankstein. These granitic, alluvial and filtering soils offer remarkable diversity:
- Rittersberg: poor granite soils, delivering mineral, saline wines built for ageing.
- Ortenberg: deep granite terroir, offering fruity aromas and aromatic precision.
- Scherwiller (100% Riesling): warm, early alluvial soils, producing wines with muscat-like aromas and citrus-driven palate.
- Kreffzen: a dry terroir, ideal for Gewurztraminer and Riesling Crémant.
- Grand Cru Frankstein: two-mica granite, warmth and elegance; a historic site praised since the Middle Ages.
Technical Expertise for Pure and Authentic Wines
In the cellar, every detail matters: temperature control, cold settling, precise fermentations, and vacuum bottling for optimal ageing. The estate vinifies all Alsace grape varieties and offers a complete range: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Crémants, Late Harvest wines and Sélections de Grains Nobles. A rare distinction: all wines come exclusively from their own vineyards.
