Emmanuel Perrin: “The World of Wine Allows Me to Address All Major Themes in Photography”

Emmanuel Perrin, an independent photographer for 25 years, is a versatile artist. He excels in still life, studio car photography, and astrophysical observatory reportage. "Contrary to all professional advice, I wanted to avoid specializing in one area of photography. I didn’t want to be labeled as a 'specialist'." Perrin’s journey into the world of wine began in Languedoc-Roussillon. "Shortly after settling in Languedoc-Roussillon, I happened upon the cover of the first issue of the magazine Terre de Vins. I called the editorial team and presented my portfolio. We clicked immediately. By the second issue, the art director was commissioning a report from me."

Perrin is captivated by wine in all its facets, with a particular fondness for portraits of winemakers. "Combining two passions, the winemaker's and the photographer's, creates surprising, curious, and slightly unconventional images, but always full of humanity. The winemaker’s profession is one I find magnificent, which drives me to contribute to its proper appreciation and recognition." Perrin’s lens also captures the beauty of vineyard landscapes: the architecture of cellars, the reflection of tanks... His photograph "Cave Coopérative de Massilargues Atuech" from the series "Lieux du Vin" earned him the Grand Prix Terroir d’Images at the international wine and vineyard film festival Oenovidéo.

Alain Marquina: “The Vine Like You’ve Never Seen It Before”

Grandson of a winemaker, Alain Marquina has been immersed in the world of wine since childhood. Now based near the Muscat de Frontignan appellation, Marquina has made the vine his favorite subject. "I took my first photos at my grandfather’s vineyard, which combined vines with human figures." This early experience deeply influenced the photographer, as one of the fundamental aspects of his style is the search for anthropomorphism in nature, attributing human characteristics to other entities like animals or deities. "Primarily a color photographer but not rejecting black and white," Marquina has a unique eye for showing the vine "like you've never seen it before," as evidenced by his photos below.

In addition to his photographic work, Alain Marquina produces numerous videos, including documentaries for France Télévisions, corporate films, and drone footage of Languedoc vineyards. As the guest of honor at the Oenovidéo festival, he was tasked with creating the posters for the 2016 edition.
