What is the history behind the estate?

A Family Legacy in Bordeaux

The family history of this estate is best illustrated by their first château, Château Cap Léon Veyrin, which originated from the marriage of the two sisters from the Veyrin estate to the two brothers from another of their châteaux, Château Cap Léon. Julien and Nathalie are now the sixth generation of winemakers to manage the vineyards. As heirs to the family brand, they strive to enhance it by maintaining the quality of their wine production and caring for the older vine stocks. While they respect the land and tradition, they continuously invest in improving their facilities and methods. This spirit of innovation was notably recognized when the estate won the Crus Bourgeois cup in 2015.

What do the three châteaux tell us about the terroir?

Three Châteaux Reflecting the Médoc Terroir

Château Cap Léon Veyrin was the first to enter the family in 1810. It spans fifteen hectares of marl and gravel soils to the north of Listrac. The Meyre family cultivates Merlot here, which makes up 60% of the château's wine, Cabernet Sauvignon at 35%, and Petit Verdot. The estate's red wine is a rich and sumptuous Cru Bourgeois. Château Julien is the second, acquired in 1985. Also covering fifteen hectares, it is located next to the legendary terroir of Saint-Julien. The red wine produced here features notes of blackcurrant and cherry, with a velvety tannic structure due to its higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (45%). Merlot represents 5% of the blend, and Petit Verdot remains a minor component at 5%. The final Château is Château Bibian, a Cru Bourgeois from Haut-Médoc. Although it is one of the family’s most recent acquisitions, it is actually one of the oldest vineyards in Listrac-Médoc. The wines produced here are rich and dense. The blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot offers powerful notes of dark fruits and a robust tannic structure. We particularly recommend the wine from Château Cap Léon Veyrin, which pairs wonderfully with spiced meats, such as a spiced lamb shank or a licorice-seasoned tenderloin.
