The Creation of L’Écrin du Vin: A Passionate Journey into Wine

This is how Éric Micouleau, former electronics engineer and creator of the L’Écrin du Vin wine box, defines himself.

Launched in 2016, L’Écrin du Vin emerged from a visit to Saint-Émilion. “I am passionate about oenotourism and have always wanted to work in the world of wine. When I was in Saint-Émilion, I noticed boxes designed to store bottles of prestigious vintages. It inspired me to create a box, somewhat like a jewelry case, but for wine, hence the name L’Écrin du Vin,” says Éric Micouleau.

Customized Laser-Cut Wooden Wine Boxes

Each box in the L’Écrin du Vin collection has its own name: L’Audacieux, L’Intuitif, Le Naturel, Le Spontané… “I wanted to break the conventional wine norms, which I find a bit too classic, especially in the Bordeaux vineyard where most names are château-related.”

The boxes are all crafted using a laser cutting machine, featuring a concentrated gas beam, air extractor, and suction turbines. “The designs are created on a computer, but they can vary depending on the client's request,” notes Éric Micouleau, who is keen on bespoke solutions.

L’Écrin du Vin: A Wine Box with a Twist

Aligned with a sustainable development approach, L’Écrin du Vin is made entirely from wood (a recyclable material). The box is also intended for a second life, as it comes with a kit including a socket and an electric cord with a switch, allowing it to be transformed into a lamp. “A small manual explains how to assemble the components. Just add a bulb and you’re all set!” Éric Micouleau adds.
