How does Joël farm this Provence terroir?

An exceptional terroir

On this exceptional terroir, Joël cultivates all 16 hectares of his vineyard, which is certified organic (with only 3 recently acquired hectares still in the process of conversion to organic farming). In addition to organic farming, Joël practices, among other things, vitipastoralism, cover cropping, agroforestry, and follows the lunar cycle to promote soil life, respect the biodiversity of his environment, and best express the uniqueness of his terroir.

What is the story behind the estate?

A rediscovered heritage

While the Poutet family has lived in the heart of Saint Côme for more than 8 generations, it took the efforts of Joël, the current winemaker, to see the birth of Domaine St Côme. Coming from a family of farmers and winemakers, his grandparents were making wine up until the 1980s. Unfortunately, the estate could not be sustained, and the family legacy gradually dispersed. After studying to become a physical education teacher in Nice, Joël Poutet decided to return to the land by restructuring the estate to continue the family vineyard’s story.

Year after year, Joël worked to reunite the family plots until, in 2020, he managed to reconstruct his ancestors' vineyard. The year 2021 marks the beginning of a new adventure: the first vinification. Joël aims to create wines that reflect his own image, bridging the gap between different generations so that everyone finds their place and his project endures.
