Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, in the Côte Chalonnaise region, the Montagny appellation is exclusively dedicated to white wine. Its viticultural history dates back to Roman times, but it was during the Middle Ages, with the involvement of monks, that the vineyard truly flourished. Today, the AOC Montagny is renowned for its elegant whites, highlighting the Chardonnay grape, and boasts 49 Premier Cru Climats.
Climate: The vineyard enjoys a temperate continental climate with southern influences, characterized by cold winters and hot summers, ideal for the maturation of Chardonnay.
Soils: The lands of Montagny are marked by limestone and marl soils, offering a distinctive minerality to the wines. The well-exposed slopes allow for optimal sunlight exposure.
Chardonnay is the essential grape variety of AOC Montagny and Burgundy. It is the only grape allowed for this appellation and expresses its full potential here, producing wines with beautiful acidity, rich texture, and notable minerality.
Appearance: Bright color, ranging from pale yellow to golden.
Nose: The bouquet reveals aromas of citrus, white flowers (hawthorn, acacia), hazelnut, and sometimes mineral or buttery nuances.
Palate: On the palate, AOC Montagny white wine is lively and balanced, with beautiful supporting minerality. Its finish is often long and refreshing.
Serving Temperature: 10°-12°C
Aging Potential: 3 to 6 years (or more depending on the domain, vintage, and Premier Crus)
