1) Blue Wine: A Spanish Invention

In the realm of “wine and color,” let’s talk about blue wine. In 2014, six Spanish friends introduced “Gik,” the very first blue wine designed for a party atmosphere. Made from both white and red grapes, blue pigments were added to the wine, giving it a striking resemblance to curaçao. However, the flavors of Gik are nothing like the Antillean orange liqueur. According to an article in Le Parisien, this wine features “a sweet taste with low acidity.” The creators aimed for originality, claiming they did it “for fun.” Nevertheless, the choice of blue, a color symbolizing movement and innovation, was likely intentional.

2) Orange Wine : The Hipster’s Choice

Often regarded as the “hipster” wine, orange wine is not, contrary to what one might think, flavored with orange. Made from white grape varieties, its production method is closer to that of red wines. Orange wine thus offers a subtle blend of red and white wine characteristics but stands out for its freshness and rich aromatic palette (dried fruits, lemon, tangerine, roasted nuts), which allows for many food and wine pairings. Although it may seem innovative, this type of wine dates back to 4000 B.C.! Long forgotten, orange wine is making a comeback. Highly popular in Australia and the United States, it is now also found in certain French wine regions such as Jura, Languedoc, Loire, and Savoie.
