Portraits of winemakers
Château Petit Boyer, a family heritage
Over the years, Jean-Vincent’s father passed on his passion to his son, Jean-Michel, who expanded and modernized the estate. In 1997, Jean-Vincent took over the vineyard and continued to enhance the estate. From a young age, he pursued studies in viticulture and gained experience at renowned châteaux in the Bordeaux region and the Loire Valley.
How did Jean-Vincent shape the future of the estate?
From bulk sales to bottling
Jean-Vincent has big ambitions for the estate. He transitioned from bulk sales to trading, and then to selling exclusively in bottles in 2003. Gradually, he acquired new parcels to enrich the estate and diversify the terroirs. His hard work and efforts were eventually recognized in 2006 when he was named Best Young Wine Talent. He now shares his passion for wine with his wife and two sons.
What makes the terroir of the estate so distinctive?
A vineyard in the heart of Bordeaux
Château Petit Boyer is located in the heart of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux region. In this exceptional Bordeaux terroir, the estate has gradually expanded and now spans nearly 60 hectares of vines. Jean-Vincent and his team work in harmony with nature, practicing reasoned agriculture. Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale 3, the winemaker is committed to preserving the local flora and fauna.
The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils that reveal the full potential of the regional grape varieties. The château favors alternative techniques to chemical products, with a major focus on biodiversity preservation. This philosophy allows the estate to produce unique wines that reflect their exceptional terroirs.
How does the estate share its passion with wine lovers?
Wines of sharing and passion
Jean-Vincent is passionate about his work, driven daily by the desire to offer wines that bring pleasure to his customers. Dedicated to sharing and transmitting knowledge, the estate offers vine rental. Wine lovers at Château Petit Boyer can become tenants of a micro-parcel and receive wine from their own vines each year. They also participate in the harvest, creating unforgettable memories around the wine.
The château produces red, white, and rosé wines. The cuvées highlight the emblematic grape varieties of the Bordeaux region, such as Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The winemaker honors his family with original cuvées like the "Armand" wine, named after his grandfather, the founder of the estate. Another notable cuvée is the PDG: Paysan de Génie, which celebrates the hard work of independent winemakers.
Frequently asked questions about Château Petit Boyer
Where is Château Petit Boyer located?
The estate lies within the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, on the right bank of the Bordeaux vineyard. Its vines now cover close to 60 hectares of clay-limestone soils.
Which grape varieties does Château Petit Boyer grow?
The cuvées are built mainly on Merlot and Cabernet Franc, two hallmark varieties of Bordeaux's right bank. Beside its reds, the estate also makes white and rosé wines.
Is Château Petit Boyer certified organic?
No. The estate farms its vines under reasoned agriculture and holds the High Environmental Value level 3 certification. The goal is to cut back on chemical treatments and safeguard the biodiversity of the vineyard.
What is the vine rental scheme offered by the estate?
It works much like a sponsorship: you take on a micro-parcel of the vineyard and receive the bottles it yields each vintage. Tenants are also invited to join in the harvest.
Where do the Armand and PDG cuvées come from?
The Armand cuvée honours Yves Armand, who founded the estate in 1946. The PDG cuvée, short for Paysan de Génie, pays tribute to the work of independent winegrowers.
