The history of Château Clamens began in 1868 on the Fronton terroir. The Clamens family developed it, down the generations, until a happy marriage entrusted its future to Bégué, who has been running it for four generations. Today, it is Michel Bégué who runs Château Clamens. He knows better than anyone the assets and specific characteristics of the terroirs that make up the estate. He has been able to preserve the family secret, no doubt he uses it like a magic formula, to select the best terroirs for each vintage.
All the wines use a majority of the variety that only Fronton uses: Négrette. Combining it with Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, allows the production of original and complex wines. They come from very diverse terroirs that characterise them powerfully, old Tarn and Garonne terraces. In Fronton, Clamens is the only vineyard that extends over three communes and two departments!
The wines are recognised each year in national competitions (Paris and Mâcon CGA — General Agricultural Competition), respected guides (Hachette, Gilbert & Gaillard) and also by local counterparts (Conseil Général du Tarn et Garonne, Concours des vins du Sud-Ouest).
