The 2013 viintage was characterised by a fairly late season, a cold, wet spring, and a summer plagued by violent storms, often accompanied by hail. Ripening was delayed and finally achieved the right balance on 12 September, the first day of the harvest. The weather was good throughout the harvest which ended on 22 September. The grapes were destalked and then put in open fermentation tanks thus allowing them to work throughout the vatting period. Vinified in steel and concrete tanks, we work on the extraction of the aromas and colour via regular remontages and pigeages over around 14 days. The tank is then drained and the grapes pressed before being matured in oak barrels for 14 months.   The winemaker's opinion : This vintage contains little-known qualities of the Gamay, such as complexity, aromatic suppleness (flowers, violets) in the first years and then taking on more fleshy notes. Moulin-à-vent is well constituted and complex and the wine for laying down par excellence. Ageing potential - 8 years

It was at the end of June 2011 that Lauren Faupin, originally from Beaune in Burgundy, took over Château de Briante in Saint Lager. Lauren looks after the daily management of the estate with a team. Since 1999, Château de Briante has developed the concept of Terra Vitis, in partnership with around 50 other producers from all over Beaujolais. Together, they set up a quality and responsibility process, at the level of their estates and for their clients.
