2014 - 75 cl

AOC Montagne - Saint-émilion

Bordeaux

Lovely intense colour, expressive nose, aromas of black fruits on a liquorice note. It is very unctuous and concentrated in the mouth. A good wine for laying down.

Vignobles Franck Despagne

33500 Libourne - Bordeaux

Vignobles Franck DESPAGNE The Desire – Château Vieux Bonneau — Château Jamard-Belcour — Château Lapourcaud-Bellevue A little history Pierre DESPAGNE was a cattle farmer in 1699, in Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens, around 10 kilometres from the current property… Alain DESPAGNE moved there in 1964 on 6.5 hectares, three of which were in very bad condition. A large-scale renovation and replantation project was therefore undertaken. In 1972, Alain bought 6 hectares of vines in Montagne and it was in 1986 that his son Franck Despagne joined the business. And so began a new history with new outlooks... Franck took 6 ha of Bordeaux Supérieur as a tenant (Château Lapourcaud Bellevue), then, in 1988, 5 ha of vines in Lussac Saint-Emilion (Château Jamard Belcour). In 1992, Alain and Franck created the company SCEV DESPAGNE & SONS. In 1999, they acquired 6 hectares of Château Lapourcaud Bellevue. In the 2000s the company began exporting. Then, more plots were purchased, giving today an overall total of 25 hectares. The terroir The soil is mostly clay-limestone with some sandy-limestone soil in the western plots... The wines have intense colours, ranging from vermilion to dark cherry. In the nose, they are lively, intense and powerful. In the mouth they are full and generous. The estate's 25 hectares are divided in the following way: 14 hectares of Montagne Saint-Emilion, 5 hectares of Lussac Saint-Emilion and 6 hectares of Bordeaux Supérieur. The vine population is 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vines is 35 years and the oldest on the estate is around 100 years old! An approach that is respectful to the environment Vignobles Despagne has always used an approach that puts respect to the environment first. Sustainable and integrated vine growing methods are used, which means that vines are only treated after thorough inspection and consultation of the weather. Cultivation is carried out using one row of plant cover and one row ploughed mechanically.
