Distillerie Bielle, the soul of agricultural rum from Marie-Galante
On the preserved island of Marie-Galante, known as the island of a hundred windmills, sugarcane shapes the landscapes, the history, and the flavors. It was here, at the end of the 19th century, that Distillerie Bielle was founded, becoming one of the emblematic houses of agricultural rum in the French Antilles.
For more than a century, the distillery has weathered changing times without ever renouncing its identity. Passed down and shaped by several generations, it has evolved with its era while remaining faithful to what matters most: expressing sugarcane in its purest form.
A historic distillery at the heart of the island of a hundred windmills
Marie-Galante has a history deeply intertwined with sugarcane. Once dotted with small traditional sugar mills known as sucrottes, the island gradually saw this model decline over the course of the 20th century.
Distillerie Bielle turned this heritage into a new opportunity, transforming its sugar legacy into the production of agricultural rum, and becoming a key player in the agricultural revival of Marie-Galante.
From sugar to rum, an agricultural rebirth
Unlike industrial rums, Bielle rum is made exclusively from freshly pressed sugarcane juice. There is no molasses here.
The cane is grown locally, harvested at full maturity, quickly crushed, then fermented and distilled using traditional methods. This demanding process preserves the full aromatic richness of the plant and reveals the unique character of the Marie-Galante terroir.
Artisanal know-how guided by terroir
Distillerie Bielle embodies an authentic and demanding vision of agricultural rum:
- sugarcane cultivated on the island,
- carefully controlled distillation,
- deep respect for the natural rhythm of raw materials.
Each cuvée tells the story of the island, its climate, its limestone soils, and its close relationship with the sea. Bielle rums stand out for their balance, aromatic clarity, and strong character.
Bielle Ambré and Bielle Ambré Premium, time as an ally
The amber rums from Distillerie Bielle benefit from aging in oak barrels, which brings roundness, complexity, and depth. The wood structures the spirit without masking it, allowing the natural notes of sugarcane, gentle spices, and ripe fruit to shine through.
These expressions appeal both to experienced rum enthusiasts and to curious drinkers looking to discover a sincere, elegant agricultural rum with real character.
Distillerie Bielle, a rum of conviction
Choosing a Bielle rum means choosing:
- an iconic distillery from Marie-Galante,
- an agricultural rum made from pure sugarcane juice,
- a house that favors authenticity over volume.
A rum that does not cheat, that speaks honestly, and that leaves a lasting impression on the palate and in the memory.
What are the aromatic differences between a Bielle amber agricultural rum and an aged rum from Marie-Galante, and how should they be tasted to fully reveal their complexity ?
