Pierre Meyer, Domaine des Nymphes: a winemaker in the village of Rasteau

We are taking you to Vaucluse, into the heart of the village of Rasteau to meet Pierre Meyer, who is the main manager of Domaine des Nymphes.

Domaine des Nymphes: a name with divine origins   Pierre Meyer's adventure at Domaine des Nymphes started in 1984, when he joined forces with his parents. "At the time, I was doing an oenology course, but my parents wanted to reunite their three children under the same roof. So I went back to the estate to give them a hand", said Pierre, who has not left Domaine des Nymphes since.   The Meyer family decided to baptise the wine growing establishment in reference to the ancient altar dedicated to the worship of Nymphs on which the cellar was built. Dating back to Roman times, this relic now remains in the Calvet d'Avignon museum. "We loved the reference to the Nymphs, but we found that the term "altar" had too many religious connations. So we kept the part that we liked to become "Domaine des Nymphes", explained Pierre. A wise choice because many visitor have told Pierre and his sister, Nadine, that they stopped to visit the Estate simply because they were intrigued by the name.   Pierre Meyer: a strong advocate of natural sweet wine   Stretching over 17 hectares of vines, 6 with Rasteau appellation, the Domaine des Nymphes vineyard produces red, rosés and white wines with Rasteau and Côtes-du-Rhône appellations. "We work our vineyards with the greatest respect for nature and our methods are similar to those of organic wine growing", explains Pierre, who believes that the geographical location of his estate and the region's highly favourable climate significantly contribute to the quality of his wines.
