Vegan dishes: which wines go with them?

The vegan diet is a growing trend that is gaining ground. Fortunately for vegan enthusiast, wine can be drunk just as well with vegetable as with meat and cheese. Here are two wine suggestions that will go perfectly with 100% vegan dishes.

1. With stuffed courgettes: a Provence rosé The vegan diet involves eliminating any animal-based products from your diet, which includes, amongst other things, meat, cheese or even eggs. However, there are of course some delicious and filling dishes without these foods. Courgettes stuffed with baby vegetables is the prime example that everyone is going crazy about this summer. This dish goes really well with red wine from the South of France, which is packed with fruity aromas and delicate tannins. Languedoc, South West France, Provence: you are spoilt for choice. "Elixir" rosé wine from Maîtres Vignerons de Saint-Tropez in AOC Côtes de Provence will be ideal for this combination. This fresh and complex wine goes perfectly with the soft texture of the courgette and baby vegetables and its strawberry and raspberry aromas will add a pleasant southern touch to your dish.  2. With a ratatouille pie: a Languedoc red Ratatouille pie is another dish that is very popular with the vegan community. This excellent summer dish is, however, a bit of a challenge when pairing with wines. Why? You need to find a balance between its rich composition of several flavours, from the acidity of tomato to the bitterness of aubergine, including the sweetness of courgette and marinated peppers.   To get it right, challenge the contrasting flavours and opt for a strong wine that is round on the palate with fruity hints and silky tannins. "Les Baronnets" red wine cuvée from Domaine de Figueirasse in the Sable de Camargue PGI (Languedoc) is spot on.  At only €5.60 the bottle, with its gourmet nose and aromas of garrigue, spices and black olive, this wine will reflect the ratatouille's summer flavours.
